About the Sangha

Sri Moodabidri Digambara Jaina Vidyavardhaka Sangha is a trust started with the noble mission and vision of imparting quality education to the needy students of the surrounding areas of Moodabidri. The founders of the Trust felt that Moodabidri being a historical place with its World Famous Thousand Pillars Basadi, should not lag behind in education. Therefore, the dedicated and committed founders started ‘Jaina Pranthika Sabha’ in the year 1906 in order to cater to the educational needs of the local public. As a first step in providing education and developing Moodabidri as a centre of education, it started a ‘Sanskrit Paatashala’ on 28th May 1906. After getting recognition from the Government in the year 1907, it came to be known as ‘D. J. Primary Kannada Medium School’ with classes from 1 to 5. The visionary zeal of the Trust prompted it to open a Higher Primary School in 1916. Thus the Management got the credit of starting a well-established school in the history of Moodabidri and for a few years, this was the centre for conducting various entrance examinations of Madras University.

The ‘Jaina Pranthika Sabha’ changed its name to ‘Shri Moodabidri Digambara Jaina Vidyavardhaka Sangha’, as per the decision taken by the then administrative council and got it registered under the Society Act on 10th October 1930. After becoming a registered body, it started Jain High School in the year 1944. The Present, main building of Jain High School was inaugurated by Late V. V. Giri, the then working minister of Madras Govt and Ex-President of India. In the later years, the Trust put forward a strong footing in the field of education and started Jain Pre-University College in 1972, Sri Dhavala College in 1979 and D. J. English Medium School in 2000.

Ever since its inception in the year 1906, the Trust has been working sincerely with the dedication to provide quality education to the students. At present, there are more than 3000 students studying under the same Trust in various institutions. The Trust has been successful in providing excellent educational facilities and thereby, maintains a very high academic standard.
